Asahi Refining North America Maintains LBMA Responsible Sourcing Compliance

Date:

Asahi Refining’s North American operations have satisfied precious metals compliance requirements under the London Bullion Market Association’s responsible sourcing framework, reinforcing standards that underpin confidence in global bullion supply chains.

Asahi Refining North America, one of the major precious metals refiners operating across the continent, has met the compliance benchmarks set by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) for responsible sourcing of gold, silver, and other precious metals. The LBMA’s framework requires accredited refiners to demonstrate that their metal supply chains are free from links to conflict financing, human rights abuses, and other prohibited practices.

The LBMA’s Responsible Gold Guidance and associated standards are widely regarded as the benchmark for institutional-grade bullion. Refiners that achieve and maintain compliance gain access to the LBMA’s Good Delivery List — a credential that allows their bars to circulate freely in professional markets, including central bank reserves, ETF vaults, and major exchange platforms.

Asahi Refining, which acquired the North American refining assets previously operated by Johnson Matthey, processes gold, silver, platinum, and palladium sourced from mines, recycled scrap, and industrial streams. Compliance with LBMA sourcing rules requires annual third-party audits and detailed documentation of metal origins, making it a significant operational commitment for any large-scale refiner.

For bullion buyers and investors, a refiner’s LBMA compliance status matters because it affects product liquidity. Bars produced by LBMA-accredited refiners are accepted at a premium by dealers, exchanges, and institutional counterparties worldwide. Non-compliant or unaccredited product can attract discounts or face outright rejection in certain markets.

The LBMA periodically publishes compliance documentation from its accredited members as part of its broader push for supply chain transparency in the precious metals industry — an effort that has grown in importance as regulators and institutional investors place greater emphasis on responsible sourcing credentials.

Investors and dealers sourcing institutional-grade bullion should verify that their preferred refiner maintains current LBMA accreditation, as compliance status can shift with annual audit cycles.
